Comfort Zones Aren't Cozy After All, Leave Now

"Life always begins with one step outside of your comfort zone" - Shannon L. Alder

Comfort zone

The security that it provide is false, the comfort it promises stunts growth, while the type of life that it has to offer is far below average. That's just mere existing, we were created to live our lives to the fullest. So, is the comfort zone an evil that should be totally avoided? Not at all, it should be a place to be visited from time to time, and not a permanent residence. It is neither good nor evil, just in between.

Life is truly an adventure, but staying in our comfort zones for too long can keep us from reaching our full potentials and enjoying those wonderful adventures. We are sometimes accustomed to the routine to the extent that we can give anything to make things remain as they are. It's safer when it is familiar. Exploring new territories can be really scary, but think of the new experiences, surge of energy and that feeling when a particular task is successfully accomplished.

Giving excuses is one of the main reasons why leaving the comfort zone may be difficult. I am not good enough, I don't have enough time, right connections and access to necessary resources. Then we recline on the cushion of our excuses and wait. It's so convenient, there is no sweat and no risks to take, thereby, anything is rarely achieved.

This is not about taking unreasonable risks or engaging in dangerous ventures, doing these will only land us into trouble. Let's endeavour to live the life that we've always imagined, without allowing anything or anyone including ourselves to stand in our paths. It's okay to take baby steps before giant strides. There is no better time to start than now.

  3. Hi Bola,

Thank you for sharing this relevant topic.

Sometimes the fear of the unknown frightens one into settling snuggly inside the comfort zone. Sadly, this complascency can lead to stagnancy. It becomes even worse when procrastination is added into the mix.

It takes discipline and determinations to pull one's self out and soar. Testing one's abilities can open the doors to endless possibilities. Yes, baby steps... :-)
